Job Description: Tech Lead – Cloud Content Delivery (CDN Migration)

Role Summary
We are looking for a Tech Lead – Systems Engineering to own and drive the migration of content delivery workloads from Akamai to Amazon CloudFront. Beyond hands-on architecture and delivery, this role carries technical leadership of the migration workstream — setting technical direction, reviewing designs, mentoring engineers, and acting as the primary technical point of contact for stakeholders through planning, execution, and cutover.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery
- Lead end-to-end migration of content delivery workloads from Akamai to Amazon CloudFront — origin configurations, cache behaviors, and edge locations
- Architect and deploy CloudFront distributions with appropriate cache policies, origin request policies, and response header configurations
- Design and implement AWS WAF rules, web ACLs, and managed rule groups to secure migrated workloads
- Own the design and quality of Terraform modules for CloudFront, WAF, and supporting AWS resources, establishing reusable patterns for the team
- Drive cache validation, latency testing, and traffic cutover verification across all migration phases
- Define and enforce standards for runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational handover documentation
Technical Leadership
- Set the technical approach and migration strategy in collaboration with architecture and delivery leadership
- Review peer designs, Terraform code, and cutover plans; ensure adherence to security, performance, and IaC best practices
- Mentor and upskill junior and mid-level engineers on CDN architecture, WAF configuration, and IaC practices
- Act as primary technical escalation point during cutover windows, coordinating with cross-functional teams (network, security, application owners)
- Communicate technical status, risks, and trade-offs to internal stakeholders and, where required, client stakeholders
Requirements
Experience
- 5–12 years of professional experience as a Systems Engineer, with demonstrated technical leadership on at least one significant infrastructure migration or modernization initiative
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in Amazon CloudFront — distribution configuration, cache behaviors, and origin setup
- Proficiency in AWS WAF — web ACLs, managed rules, and custom rule authoring
- Working familiarity with Akamai CDN, sufficient for accurate migration mapping (origin, caching, and security control equivalence)
- Strong Terraform skills for Infrastructure as Code across AWS resources; able to define reusable, production-grade modules
- Proficient in Java and Python for scripting, automation, and tooling
- Comfortable owning technical decisions independently and defending them in design reviews
Leadership & Communication
- Prior experience guiding or mentoring engineers, or informally leading technical workstreams
- Upper-Intermediate (B2) or higher proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both engineering and business stakeholders
Good to Have
- AWS Certification (Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional, or Advanced Networking Specialty)
- Experience with observability tooling for CDN performance (CloudWatch, Real User Monitoring)
- Exposure to client-facing delivery in a consulting/systems integrator environment
